Forward Industries’ Subsidiary Intelligent Product Solutions and Lighticians Collaborate to Bring Smart Lighting to Sports Broadcasting

- First IoT-Connected Lighting for Live Sporting Event Broadcasts: Wirelessly Manages Lighting from Anywhere-

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. and LOS ANGELES, Oct. 23, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Intelligent Product Solutions (IPS), a subsidiary of Forward Industries (NASDAQ: FORD), and Lighticians today announced the first IoT-connected lighting solution for live sporting event broadcasts, enabling lighting designers to remotely control the lighting during a television broadcast.  With this IPS-designed solution, the lighting used to illuminate the broadcasters and player interviews on the sidelines is controlled by the Lighticians Elixir mobile iOS app, making it easy to adjust from any remote location.  IPS is an award-winning global product design and development firm that specializes in IoT products.

During sporting events, the natural lighting changes over the course of a day/evening and, as a result, requires adjustments to the fixtures that are lighting the on-screen talent.  In the past, lighting designers had to manually adjust the fixtures to light the talent, and the crew adjusting the lights was not able to see what the image looked like on camera. With Lighticians Elixir, the lighting designer can now make changes from a monitor live in the broadcast booth, trailer or even from behind the camera.

“This new smart way to control and adjust the lighting for sports broadcasts can be used for any event including baseball, football, car racing and horse racing. Our solution improves the lighting quality and delivers a better viewing experience for fans,” explained Tim Duff, CEO of Lighticians.

He added, “IPS has been our product design partner from the start, and the company’s expertise in app development and wireless product design has been crucial to the development of our sports broadcasting products, as well as our previously-released motion picture set-lighting solution. The IPS team has extensive wireless connectivity experience which is essential in overcoming the challenges of designing reliable wireless products for use in environments with large amounts of radio frequency interference, like sports arenas.”

The Lighticians’ lighting solution for sports broadcasts includes the Elixir mobile app and Satellite wireless base station that works like a wireless router. In addition, the solution includes dongles that plug into the back of the lights so they can communicate directly to the Satellite base station.

“Working with Lighticians, our expert team was able to overcome many of the design hurdles to develop a user-friendly software and hardware solution that makes it easier and quicker to manage the lighting for broadcasters in sports arenas,” said Mitch Maiman, President and Cofounder of Intelligent Product Solutions. “Managing the balance of overall wireless RF link performance in a relatively small package and maintaining an attractive, useable industrial design, all while simplifying the user experience of installation and provisioning is a major challenge. We enjoyed bringing our holistic approach to the multi-disciplinary solution.”

CEO and Chairman of Forward Industries, Terry Wise commented, “We are very excited about the collaboration with Lighticians. This is an excellent example of how Forward Industries has enabled IPS to leverage the advantages of being part of the group to partner with companies who are developing potentially ground-breaking products.”
