Nineteen English cricketers will hope to be snapped up when they go under the hammer at the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.
England’s Sam Curran, Eoin Morgan and Chris Woakes are three of the ten players available at the highest base price of £220,000. All-rounder Curran, 20, has enjoyed a “breakout year in international cricket”, The Guardian reports, and Royal Challengers Bangalore are said to be interested.

Available at the highest base price (£220,000) are the following nine players:

IPL 2019 auction date and start time
The 2019 IPL auction will be held on 18 December and the Hindustan Times reports that it will start at 2.30pm Indian Standard Time (9am UK time).

Sky Sports has confirmed that it will show a live stream of the IPL auction across its digital platforms. Sky’s coverage begins at 9.30am (UK time).
What the teams require at the auction
While there are ten stars in the highest-priced bracket, cricketers such as Yuvraj Singh, Mohammed Shami, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales are also among the 346 players up for auction. Cricbuzz rounds-up what eight teams will hope to achieve from the IPL auction.

Kolkata Knight Riders
- Available slots: 12 (seven Indians, five overseas)
- Main requirements: experienced fast bowlers
Kings XI Punjab
- Available slots: 15 (11 Indians, four overseas)
- Main requirements: wicketkeeper, all-rounder, Indian and (back-up) overseas pace bowler, back-up Indian spinner
Mumbai Indians
- Available slots: seven (six Indians, one overseas)
- Main requirements: an experienced spin bowler and overseas fast bowler
Royal Challengers Bangalore

England players in the IPL
England Test captain Joe Root won’t be involved in the 2019 IPL but a number of his international team-mates have been retained by their franchises.
Sky Sports reports that Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler have been retained by Rajasthan Royals. Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained Moeen Ali while Chennai Superkings keep David Willey and Sam Billings.
England one-day skipper Eoin Morgan was not expected to be involved in the IPL next year but he was a late addition to the auction list.

What is the IPL and when does the 2019 season start?
The IPL is a Twenty20 cricket tournament featuring eight franchises. The 2019 edition will be the 12th year and the season starts on 29 March. Because of the general elections in India the 2019 tournament could be held in the UAE or South Africa, but this is yet to be confirmed. Wisden reports that the final will be held on 19 May - 11 days before the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup.
Which teams play in the IPL?
There are eight IPL franchises: Chennai Super Kings (winners in 2010, 2011 and 2018); Delhi Capitals; Kings XI Punjab; Kolkata Knight Riders (winners in 2012 and 2014); Mumbai Indians (winners in 2013, 2015 and 2017); Rajasthan Royals (winners in 2008); Royal Challengers Bangalore; Sunrisers Hyderabad (2016).
How does the IPL season work?
The eight teams will play each other twice in a home-and-away format. At the end of the double round-robin group stage the top four teams will qualify for the play-offs. The top two teams face off in the qualifier one round and the third and fourth-placed teams play in the eliminator round. The winner of qualifier one goes straight through to the final, while the loser plays the victor of the eliminator match for a place in the showpiece final.
How to watch the IPL on TV in the UK
Sky Sports announced a new multi-year deal to broadcast the IPL. In 2019 Sky Sports will show 60 live matches each year in the UK and Ireland.
