After opening the 2021-2022 season with a 6-1 win over Listowel Friday night, the Warriors enjoyed another win Sunday night, beating the Brantford Bandits 4-2 at home.

Callan Christner and Izac Blum each scored a point in the first, the latter of which was with the man advantage, while Camden Daigle and Ty Higgins added to Stratford’s lead in the second.

A goal apiece by Bandits Jesse Reimer and Zachary Gratton in the first and third respectively wasn’t enough to bring them back, though Brantford took no fewer than five penalties trying.

The Stratford Warriors will next take on the Caledon Bombers at the Mayfield Recreation Complex Sept. 30 starting at 8 p.m.

At the Steve Kerr Memorial Complex in Listowel, the Cyclones’ younger roster proved Friday’s loss to Stratford wouldn’t set the pace for the season with a 6-1 win of their own over the Caledon Bombers.

Following a point from Travis Verbeek seven minutes into the first, a trio of Bomber penalties left the Cyclones’ Cam Knight, Chet Hudson and Tate Brenner open to follow up with three power-play goals before the first intermission.

The Bombers kept the Cyclones at bay in the second, likely because Listowel’s Jaden Goldie spent half the period in the penalty box. Once he was out of jail though, Goldie and teammate Jake McDonald picked up two more in the third, while Caledon’s Jordan Adams pushed through with his team’s only marker.

Next up, the Listowel Cyclones will face off against the Ayr Centennials at the North Dumfries Community Centre at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30.

In Chatham, the St. Marys Lincolns also squeezed out a win after losing their season opener, beating the Maroons 3-1.

The Lincolns’ Cole Schnittker gave his team an early lead with a point in the first and Chatham’s Will McCracken responded with a goal just before the second intermission. St. Marys didn’t let that bother them, though, as Damian Pancino and Jordan Daer cemented the win with a goal each late in the third.

Tension built between the teams as they traded penalties across the first two periods, and came to a head early in the third as Listowel’s Thomas Munro and Chatham’s Cameron Symons each served time in the box for delay of game and inciting an opponent.

The Lincolns’ Myles Baker and the Maroons’ Owen Sculthorp followed their teammates to the box less than a minutes later with a roughing and slashing penalty respectively.

The St. Marys Lincolns will return home to the Pyramid Recreation Centre to face off against the London Nationals on Oct. 1 starting at 7:30 p.m.
