The Wisconsin-Superior women's soccer team kept a tight clamp on Martin Luther and then took advantage when the Knights' defense yielded, winning 3-0 on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

MLC had only one shot on target for the game, but kept UWS out of the net until Annah Schussman's 56th minute goal. Niya Wilson followed less than 10 minutes later with her seventh score of the season before Schussman completed a brace 6 1/2 minutes from the end.

Morgan Philiber and Jenna Lang shared the goalkeeping duties for UWS, with Lang making the single save. The Yellowjackets (4-3, 2-0 UMAC) host Crown on Friday.

UWS volleyball denied in double trip

Wisconsin-Superior came up empty in both matches of a double road trip Saturday, losing 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-23) in UMAC play to Martin Luther, then hitting the road and dropping a nonconference match 3-2 (25-13, 23-25, 21-25, 25-14, 15-7) to St. Catherine in St. Paul.

UWS held a slight advantage in hitting percentage and blocks in the match against Martin Luther (4-7, 3-0 UMAC) but lost all three sets by the minimum, getting out-dug 88-74.

Alexie Pryd led UWS with 15 kills and was one of five Yellowjackets with at least 11 digs, led by Hailey Atwood's 16.

Against St. Catherine, Pryd racked up 16 kills and Jenna Anderson 26 digs to lead all players in both categories, but UWS struggled with attack errors, making seven in the last set and 36 in the match.

UWS (4-10, 2-1 UMAC) returns to St. Paul on Tuesday for just one match, at Hamline.
