Black Stars B 2019Ghana won the 2017 edition of the WAFU Cup as hosts

The Black Stars B team will start its journey to a potential defence of their WAFU Cup of Nations trophy on Tuesday against The Gambia at the Stade Lat Dior, Thies in Senegal.

The team, which is being coached by Maxwell Konadu, has been in Senegal since last week getting ready for the match.

Konadu guided Ghana to win the 2017 edition at home and the expectations are that Stars will make a good shout to keep their title.

The match with The Gambia is major since it will determine the team’s path for the rest of the tournament.

A victory takes them into the cup competition’s quarter finals to face either Burkina Faso or hosts, Senegal while a defeat sends Ghana into the plate competition for the losers of the first round matches.

In that case, Ghana’s opponents could be either Guinea-Bissau or Mauritania.

Positive Vibe

In an interview granted to FootballGhana, AshantiGold forward, Shafiu Mumuni, said that the team was capable of handling the pressures of the competition.

“We are well and self motivated coming into this tournament. We will make sure to maintain our champions status.

“I have hopes in my teammates. I strongly believe we will go far in this tournament. This is a different team all together.

“The mentally in camp is very positive. All we want is the support and prayers of Ghanaians and I believe with this, we will bring the trophy to Ghana.”

Senegal 3-1 Guinea-Bissau
