2020 Olympics qualifiers: Six foreign-based players invited to Queens camp

Queens GabonCoach Mercy Tagoe invited six who ply their trade abroad for the qualifier

Head coach of the Black Queens, Mercy Tagoe Quarcoo has invited a 30 – woman provisional squad for camping at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram for preparations towards the 2020 Olympics Games qualifiers.

Of the 30 players, Coach Mercy Tagoe invited six who ply their trade abroad and they include Iceland-based Afturelding star, Janet Egyir, Priscilla Okyere of Rayo Vallecano and Alice Kusi of Jordanian side Shabab Al-Ordon.

The rest are Portia Boakye who plays for Djurgarden FC, Sporting Huelva’s Princella Adubea and Grace Asantewa who recently joined Spanish side Logroño.

Also making the list are Police Ladies experienced goalkeeper, Fafali Dumehasi, Rita Okyere of Prisons Ladies, LadyStrikers’ Gladys Amfobea, Mavis Owusu of Ampem Darkoa Ladies and Philicity Asuako of Police Ladies.

Former Black Maidens captain and newly-crowned Ghana Football Awards 2018 Female Footballer of the Year, Mukarama Abdulai has also been invited, her third call-up after joining the Queens for an international friendly against Germany in 2018 and participating in the WAFU tournament earlier this year.

Coach Mercy Tagoe also gave an opportunity to Hasaacas Ladies and Black Maidens forward Milot Pokuaa, her first call up to the Queens’ camp.

The Queens will engage their Gabonese counterparts in a two legged qualifier fixture with the first encounter scheduled to come off on August 26, while the second leg will be played on September 3.

Ghana was among seven other countries namely Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea which drew bye in the preliminary round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and they are expected take on their respective opponents in the second round of the qualifiers.
