Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has dismissed the notion that his team will qualify easily for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Sports Extra reports.

The Eagles were drawn alongside Benin, Lesotho and Sierra Leone in Group L of the AFCON qualifiers but Rohr was quick to add that they must be respected — especially Benin.

“I feel good about the draw,” Rohr told Sports Extra.

“I think we judge teams on their names, their history, but you have to get out and beat them.

“Benin are a good side, we saw them at the AFCON, how they were hard to beat, they are a good example. They weren’t bad and had some good players. Their only defeat was against Senegal.”

He added, “We all saw what happened when the qualifiers for the 2015 AFCON began. The (Eagles) team which won the 2013 edition lost their first game at home to DR Congo 3-2 and afterwards struggled.

“So, we need fresh motivation to maintain our level now and also improve, which is difficult but we will try to achieve that.

“No team will be easy to play during the qualifiers but I hope my players will be in good shape when the qualifiers start.”
