High school roundup: Edison boys’ soccer staying within striking distance of Newport

Seniors Jack Morrell and Dustin Vorhees and junior Sander Booij scored goals for the host Chargers in a 3-1 Sunset League victory over Huntington Beach on Friday.

Edison ran its record to 13-4-2, 5-1 in league. The Chargers play at Marina (2-14-1, 0-6) Friday at 3 p.m.

Huntington Beach fell to 5-14-1 overall, 1-5-0 in league. The Oilers will take on Newport Harbor (9-7-4, 5-0-1) at home Friday at 5 p.m.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Pacifica Christian Orange County 3, Claremont Webb 1

Junior Alyssa Smith, junior Sadie Hill and sophomore Brooklyn Motske all scored for the Tritons in the San Joaquin League road game Friday.

Freshman Buze Harrison had an assist for Pacifica Christian (11-1, 3-1 in league), which plays Samueli Academy in another league game Monday at 3:15 p.m. at Centennial Park in Santa Ana.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Etiwanda 73, Corona del Mar 54: The Eagles, ranked third in the state by MaxPreps.com, coasted past the Sea Kings on Saturday in a game in the APU Shootout at La Verne Damien High.

Senior forward Kevin Kobrine had a team-high 21 points for CdM (12-8). Sophomore guard John Humphreys added 11 points.

The Sea Kings, who are 2-2 in the Pacific Coast League, resume league play at Woodbridge (6-15, 2-2) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Vista Murrieta 68, Edison 40: Senior guard Gabby Samiy had 16 points and four rebounds in a losing effort for the Chargers at the Norco Extravaganza on Saturday.

Edison (11-9, 4-1) plays host to Marina (4-17, 0-5) on Monday at 7 p.m.
