Sports Roundup: Providence volleyball knocks off Archer for shot at title

Providence d. Archer, 10-25, 25-15, 25-22, 14-25, 15-13: The Pioneers knocked Archer from the ranks of Liberty League unbeaten with a thrilling win Friday night and, in the process, put themselves in position to share a league title.

Providence (13-4, 5-1), which was led by 17 kills and 23 digs from Talia Patterson, has a match at Pacifica Christian on Saturday and at home against Glendale Adventist Academy on Monday. Should the Pioneers win out, they would share the league crown with Archer (7-1).

Justine Nunez added 33 assists and 11 digs, Giselle Camonayan posted four kills, 11 digs and four aces, Isabella Mahan contributed 23 digs and Sarah Cox tallied seven kills and five blocks.

Mary Star d. Bellarmine-Jefferson, 23-25, 25-21, 25-13, 26-24: The Guards fell in the Santa Fe League match Thursday evening on the road.

Bell-Jeff is 1-12, 0-10 in league.
