Bowls Fiji will select 10 players after three trials for the Asian Pacific Games in June and the Pacific Games in Apia in July.

New high performance coach Maurice Symes made the comment during the first trial at Nadi Sports and Social Club yesterday.

Symes said they would train for two weekends every month.

“Next month we have two trials in Suva. After the second trial, the teams will attend the Asian Pacific Games in Gold Coast, Australia and the Pacific Games in Samoa,”Symes said.

“There will be five men and five women who will play singles and fours. When that competition finishes, they will break up and play pairs and triples.

“They play four disciplines but do not play them all at the same time. At the Pacific Games, they will play the full range of singles, pairs, triples and fours.

“Once the team is announced, we will be having training in two weekends in each month,” he added.

“I will spend two weeks here holding training camps in other place.

“I will be one of the five selectors and obviously training will happen on a regular basis each month.”

He said he was thrilled to take up the position of high performance coach. He was also excited to be part of Team Fiji.

“I will keep in close contact with all players and the management.”
