Warmth of Guam

/ 05:17 AM September 02, 2017

Guam is a closer and more affordable alternative to Hawaii, while still keeping a distinctly Filipino touch.

And at the heart of Guam—known for its exotic beaches and warm, welcoming nature—is Tumon, the perfect home away from home for beach goers of all ages.

Guam is a small enough island that you can fully explore in a day or two, and so it’s best to rent a cab and enjoy the sights along Pale San Vitores Road, where many commercial centers can be found.

Even our accommodation, the Guam Plaza Hotel, was right in the middle of this long stretch of tourist attractions.

We booked a room that could accommodate three people. It had two twin beds but an extra bed was available upon request. A standard room had all the necessary amenities to ensure a comfortable stay, such as free Wi-Fi, mini-refrigerator, air conditioning and a balcony view.

The hotel also offers package deals such as the standard room that comes with water theme park passes.

Tarza Water Park—which boasts of nine thrilling water attractions for the whole family to enjoy—is located right behind Guam Plaza Hotel and is visible from the balcony. One can dive into the crystal clear waters and enjoy a leisurely swim or enjoy various water sports.

For those who want to enjoy the water without getting wet, there’s the Underwater World Complex that was within walking distance from the hotel.

Visitors can explore the diverse ocean life from sharks to stingrays as you walk freely beneath 800,000 gallons of sea water at the aquarium’s underwater tunnels.

Guam Plaza Hotel is also connected to JP Superstore. Indulge your shopping desires by purchasing unique Chamorro craft products or by trying Chamorro food specialties.

All in all, the experience was a refreshing break from the humdrum urban life of Manila, but was still familiar enough to feel like home.

One can enjoy the refreshing ocean breeze by the hotel balcony.
