BR-H softball splits with Forest Park

CRYSTAL FALLS–Rain put a damper on a good portion of Monday’s baseball and softball action.

But rain means nothing to a Bronco or a Trojan.

Bark River-Harris hit the road for a doubleheader against Crystal Falls Forest Park on Monday.

Here’s what went down:

Forest Park 5, Bark River-Harris 2

The Trojans broke the flood gates open in their half of the third behind back-to-back two-run singles to capture a 5-0 lead. Aubrey Gagnon belted a RBI single in the fourth and Kaiya Davis earned a RBI groundout in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to take command for a win.

A Ingersoll took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) off eight hits with three walks and seven strikeouts across six innings in the circle. Kaet Erickson finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base. Alexis Olson finished 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Taylor Klee walked twice and stole a base. Faith Javurek and Ella Gonzales also added a base hit each.

Bark River-Harris 12, Forest Park 11

A combined effort of 23 runs, 11 hits and seven errors all boiled down to the seventh inning tied 9-9.

After Klee lined out to start the top of the seventh, Olson and Javurek earned back-to-back walks and Gonzales was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Erickson. She didn’t disappoint, belting a two-run double for an 11-9 lead. A passed ball three pitches later allowed Gonzales to score from third for a 12-9 advantage.

The Trojans cut the deficit to two runs off a sacrifice fly, but it also cam at a cost as the inning’s second out. Forest Park belted a fly ball to left field, but a Broncos error allowed another run to score, shaving the BR-H advantage to 12-11. A walk and a fielder’s choice put two runners in scoring position with two outs, but Ingersoll’s first pitch to CFFP’s No. 3 hitter was a fly ball to left. Gagnon snagged it for the third out and the win.

The Broncos also found success in the batter’s box during the second inning.

BR-H loaded the bases with one out, and added runs off a walk, a two-run double from Ingersoll, a RBI hit from Erickson and added three runs off two Forest park errors to lead 7-3 midway through two.

Erickson finished 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored and drew a walk. Ingersoll finished 1-for-5 with three RBI and earned the win, allowing two runs (one earned) off three walks and a strikeout in 2 1/3 hitless innings of relief. Klee got the start, allowing eight runs (four earned) off two hits with five free passes and a punchout.

Olson walked twice, scored two runs and stole a base. Gagnon finished 1-for-3 with a RBI and run scored. Gracie Robinette finished 1-for-3 and scored once.

The Broncos host Norway for a doubleheader starting a 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
