Paris Olympics: Cassy optimistic about Taekwondo chances

The Deputy Director of Sports in Imo State and also the StateTaekwondo coach ,Kuba Cassy says Team Nigeria is capable of winning medals through Taekwondo in  the forth coming 2004 Paris Olympics Games.

Coach Cassy who was one of the national coaches in the past All African Games in Nigeria and Zimbabwe said talents abound in the team to do the magic, but for the international politics often used to edge some athletes out.

According to him, ” if the politics is removed, Nigeria has good and hard working athletes on ground to do the nation proud.’

He further said he was satisfied with the achievements of Taekwondo in international competitions so far but that the politics being played at that level was the only thing bringing the sport back, especially when somebody would win something and it would be given to another.

Cassy who brought Taekwondo to Imo State some years back and was the first Nigerian to study in Kyunghae University has successfully organized the South East Taekwondo Championship( a 6 day event)hosted by the state for the sixth time where winners went home with certificates and medals.

He said that his target  for organizing the event was to assist the state government to develop the sport nationally and internationally and seized the opportunity to appeal  to the government, individuals and corporate bodies for support to enable the sport stay afloat because according to him,” its an interesting game which will help the youth mentally and physically”.
